Writing got you down? Sometimes the only thing holding you back is knowing your stuff. So, we’ll be posting some of the resources I find handy right here for your glorious eyes to feast upon.
Plot Ideas:
Too many options! That’s always the problem. Well, how do I settle on a decision? Simple. I use a generator. Specifically, I use the Reedsy plot generator and it has yet to let me down. It’s overflowing with character, plot, and subversion ideas.
Character Boarding:
Do you really know what your character looks like? Do you wish you did but you have no skill in drawing? Have no fear, image boarding is a wonderful way to nail down those nuances of your character. Simply google and compile those images into a doc. Here is an example of the doc that I created when writing the short story Magus Gentle.
Where to Send Short Stories:
The Magazine industry for Fantasy/Sci Fi isn’t so large, as far as I can tell. It has also shrunk over time and there aren’t many places to go. But here is a short compilation of the magazines I’ve found. Check out this list of Fantasy/SciFi Magazines if you’re looking to publish short stories or novella length fiction.
Where to get ideas?
Where do ideas come from? From somewhere. They don’t come out of nothing. So you have to get out. You have to interact with people. Now, how do I do that? I participate in Dungeons and Dragons both as a player and as a Dungeon Master. It is, by far, one of the best ways to explore human dynamic.
Look, though, you don’t have to participate in Dungeons and Dragons, there’s something out there for you. There are plenty of other RPG’s such as Edge of the Empire or others. Find what works to fuel your creativity and don’t let it go.
